Best Free Temporary Email Services (2026): An Honest Comparison

There are dozens of temporary email services, and they're not all the same: some are instant no-signup throwaways, others are developer tools with APIs. This is an honest, sourced comparison to help you pick — including where each one is the wrong choice.

Disclosure: MoeMail is our own service. We've tried to be fair, link sources, and call out our own trade-offs. Feature and pricing details are accurate as of June 2026 — always check each provider's site, since pricing changes.

The services, honestly

MoeMail (ours)

Free and open-source, with private, account-bound mailboxes (not a public inbox), a full OpenAPI with webhooks, a permanent-mailbox option, and the ability to self-host on Cloudflare. Trade-off: it asks you to register — one extra step the no-signup tools skip. That step is what keeps your inboxes private and manageable, but if you want a literal one-click throwaway, the tools below are faster.

temp-mail.org

The best-known instant throwaway: no registration, an address in one click, auto-expiry. Great for a quick signup. It offers a paid API for developers. Like most public temp-mail, treat it as non-private.

10minutemail

Dead simple: a single address that auto-deletes after ten minutes. Perfect for one-time verification, useless for anything you'll revisit.

Guerrilla Mail

A long-running free service with no signup and a 60-minute inbox; you can scramble the address for a little extra obscurity. No real API for automation.

Mailinator

Built for QA, not consumers. Its public inboxes are readable by anyone (by design); private inboxes, a private domain, API and webhooks come on the (free, verified) Pro and paid Business tiers. A solid choice for teams testing email — see also the developer options below.

How to choose

  • One-time signup, don't care about privacy? 10minutemail or temp-mail.org are fastest.
  • Want the inbox to stay private? Avoid public-inbox tools; use an account-bound service like MoeMail.
  • Need an API for tests/automation? See email testing for developers and the disposable email API guide; MoeMail, Mailinator (Pro), and dedicated tools fit here — or compare Mailosaur & MailSlurp alternatives.
  • Want to own the infrastructure? MoeMail is open-source and self-hostable; none of the others are.

Our take

If you just need to dodge a verification email once, any of these works. If you want private inboxes, a real API, or to run your own service, that's the gap MoeMail is built for — free, open-source, and account-secured. Create a temporary email address and see if it fits.
